Cathy Layzell was born in South Africa in 1972 and studied Fine Art at Rhodes University before moving to London in 1995. A full-time painter since 2001, she now works from the Cable Street Studios in Docklands, London.
Working mainly in oil on canvas, Cathy's landscapes and still lives consistently explore the power of colour. Her work has been described as ... ‘gentle and with insight and a controlled sensitivity not often seen these days, reminiscent of the beautiful quiet of Morandi.’
Resident artist at the Painting School of Montmiral in the South West of France in 2003, her travels have recently taken her to Australia where she was introduced to printmaking by Jeffrey Makin of Port Jackson Press, Melbourne.
