EDUCATION 1990 - 1994 - BA Fine Art, Rhodes University. Painting & English Literature. 2003/4/7/8 - The Painting School of Montmirail, SW France. Two weeks each summer under the tutorage of colour theorist Francis Pratt. 2008 - Gary Wragg workshop. 'Exploring the Legacy of Matisse' Two weeks at Matisse's former studio ‘Villa La Reve’ near Nice. EXPERIENCE After moving to London in the mid-nineties Cathy worked as a designer and art director in book publishing before moving to the North Norfolk coast in 2001 to paint full-time. An invitation to be a resident artist at the Painting School of Montmirail in the South West of France (near Toulouse) for the summer of 2003 enabled her to develop her life-long interest in colour. There she studied colour theory and especially the rich chromatics of Bonnard and Matisse. For many summers thereafter Cathy returned to this beautiful rural region of France in her red royal mail postal van to explore the landscape ‘en plein air’. In 2008, she stayed at Matisse's former home and studio ‘Villa La Reve’ near Nice, where she explored the legacy of Matisse under the guidance of the British colourist Gary Wragg. Cathy returned to South Africa in 2008 and had her debut solo show at the Irma Stern Museum in Cape Town in October 2009.
