Ravine
Ravine began as a study of dark rocks and reflective black water, glimpsed through ravines where moss, foliage, and fallen leaves punctuate shadowed surfaces. These intimate observations of cavernous folds and earth textures became the foundation for a series that moves between representation and abstraction.
On the canvas, I painted the dark cave-like spaces first, then applied turpentine to create controlled drips, allowing paint to fall like erosion, forming rivulets reminiscent of waterfalls, moss-covered slopes, and subterranean watercourses. This process mirrors natural cycles of growth and decay, sedimentation and flow, revealing the layered life of the underland.
